How to travel to Zermatt in style

Travelling to a ski resort is not always the best part of the holiday so when you travel to Zermatt why not try and make it better?

If you’re going stay in a stylish resort like Zermatt maybe you should arrive in style too!

By road to Zermatt

Aston Martin on ICE

It takes about 9 hours to drive from the French port of Calais to the ski resort of Zermatt. Add onto that about an hour for the Eurotunnel and depending on where you reside in the UK you could be on the road for at least 15 hours.

If you do decide to drive why not make it a journey to remember?

You could try and do it the environmentally friendly way, travelling in the most stylish of all electric cars: the Tesla S. There are enough supercharging points that you can now get all the way powered by electricity and with very little time added to your journey.

If you fancy a bit more of an impact you might want to consider hiring a supercar. For £2500, plus the £400 in fuel you will need for the 1200 mile round trip, you can hire an Aston Martin DB9 from Hertz for the week, which would be great fun on the toll roads as well as on the mountain roads near the resort.

The downside to this would be that due to Zermatt’s no car policy you couldn’t park it outside your chalet. You probably wouldn’t get much skiing done either, as you would probably spend most of the time driving around the rest of the Alps or checking that no one has scratched it the underground car park.

By Train to Zermatt

Glacier Express

If you like trains and skiing then Zermatt is one of the best places to travel to by train.

Any trip to Zermatt will involve some sort of train travel, from the cog railway that takes you from the car parks in Täsch to the Gornergrat train that takes you up into the ski area.

Why not travel all the way by train? Going 1st class on the Eurostar is an amazing experience, there are lounges at your departure point, dedicated carriage and they will also feed you along the way.

The journey takes around 13 hours from London to Bern which may sound like a long time but is probably the least stressful way to travel to Zermatt. Once in Bern you can get on a train to Zermatt or lock up your luggage and enjoy the town before the final hour and a half leg.

The final part of the journey also has first class available and the scenery is outstanding.

The trip from the town of Visp up to Zermatt is the final section of the world famous Glacier Express route from St Moritz and will be one of the most breathtaking train rides you will ever take.

The climb is enhanced by the oversized windows in the carriages designed to help you take in as much of the surrounding mountains and rivers of the valley as your eyes can swallow.

Private Jet to Zermatt

M-ARCH approaching the Engadin / St. Moritz in March ;)

The ultimate way of flying is by private jet.

If you happen to own one already, then simply direct your pilot to Sion in Switzerland – just 25 miles from Zermatt. If you don’t own a private jet then you can charter one for about £12,000.

Once you have landed you could get a transfer in a chauffeur-driven car but that would take nearly two hours. However, for just £1,500 you can get a helicopter transfer straight into resort.

If all of that is a bit more than you were thinking of spending then you might want to consider flying Business class with Swiss Air where the prices start at £389 pp.

We have flown with Swiss many times and the service is wonderful and the access to the lounges at the airport make you feel like you’re on holiday before you arrive. Once you land it is up to you if you want to enjoy the train ride or we can arrange a private limousine transfer with Taxi Christophe.
