Mountaineering Holidays in Zermatt

If you’re looking for mountaineering holidays in Zermatt, Switzerland, there’s nowhere better to base yourself than one of our chalets and apartments. Zermatt is the perfect location for testing yourself in summer on both simpler and more technical climbs.

First ascent of the Matterhorn was in 1865

This beautiful Swiss village is steeped in mountaineering history. The first ascent of the Matterhorn was famously made by Briton Edward Whymper over 150 years ago in 1865. Ever since serious climbers have flocked back to this iconic mountain above this beautiful village.

Plenty of options over 4000m

There are thirty-eight 4000m peaks in Zermatt, including the famous mountains such as Monte Rosa, Weisshorn, Lyskamm, Castor, Pollux and the Matterhorn – and all offering stunning views over the Alps and variety of difficulty.

Accommodation options for 2-12

At Matterhorn Chalets, we can make the logistics of any mountaineering holiday in Zermatt so much simpler. We offer a range of accommodation options – from self-catering apartments for two to chalets large enough for a group of 12.

A popular choice in summer is our Chalet Ulysse – a superb chalet that was been included in the ‘Best Luxury Ski Chalets in the World’ selection in March 2017.

Chalet Ulysse can be rented either as separate apartments for 4 or 8 people, or you can take the whole property for groups of up to 12 people.

You’ll be housed in comfort, with views of the Matterhorn in quiet Winkelmatten. It’s only five minutes’ walk from the centre of town, but also on the free electric bus circuit that services the village.

Finding a mountain guide

Although Matterhorn Chalets owners Ed and Suzanne love ski touring in winter and think nothing of summitting Breithorn (4164m), we are not professional mountaineers.

However, we work with local guides in both summer and winter (in winter we offer free ski guiding to our catered chalet guests) and can put you in touch with the right person for your aspirations and abilities.

You can then use our accommodation as your base and use it to explore the area from, initially on your test sorties and then on the major ascents.
