Latest Photos of the New Gant Chairlift in Zermatt

Work on the new Gant chairlift in Zermatt – replacing the old gondola – has been going on since the winter finished in May 2016.

Testing should start on the new lift in mid-November and will open for the new winter season 2016/17.

Work progressing well

We previous wrote about this new upgrade back in May, and work has progressed since then.  This photos was taken earlier this week (in August 2016) by Suzanne from Matterhorn Chalets:

Increased lift capacity

The new 6 seater lift will increase capacity by 800 passengers an hour, from 1000 to 1800.  Progress is going well and the image below shows some of the 8 supporting pylons that have been installed during August.

Old cabins flown down into resort

The old gondolas were sold at auction last winter season and were flown down from the mountain to the valley in June. The cabins were apparently sold for around €500 each.
