It’s still two seasons away, but the world’s highest tricable car is coming to Zermatt.
Described as a ‘Ferrari in the air’ the new gondola will be installed at Klein Matterhorn in Zermatt after the project was approved in April 2016.
Due to open n 2018/19
This state-of-the-art lift will open for winter 2018-2019 and will transport 2000 people per hour and reduce the journey time to just 9 minutes.
The aim is to offer a new, upgraded link between Trockener Steg (2835m) and Klein Matterhorn (3874m).
Work already underway
Early work on the top station by Air Zermatt has already begun. The local helicopter company is a stakeholder in this project, which is estimated to cost CHF 42 million.
The video below reveals more about the operation, which will be financed by the lift company and will be ‘the biggest construction project in the company’s history’.
Modelled on Italian luxury cars
The new lift will carry 25 cabins, with design inspirations from the automobile industry, and specifically the Italian company Pininfarina – who have previously created several Ferrari or Maserati models.
