Christmas Services at the English Church in Zermatt

St Peter’s English Church in Zermatt holds a key position in the resort’s history.

The original plans for the church were drawn up in 1865 – the same year that Whymper’s party first summitted the Matterhorn, and the foundation stone was laid in 1869.

The church is closely linked with the many British visitors who were among the first to want to come to Zermatt as ‘tourists’ to see and experience the Matterhorn.

The church has various plaques commemorating  famous climbers, including Charles Hudson who died on the return from Whymper’s original ascent.

Services for Christmas 2017 

The church still offers Anglican services and pastoral care and this Christmas has the following services planned:

Christmas Eve
10:00 No Service
17:00 Service of Lessons and Carols
18:45 Service of Lessons and Carols
23:00 Midnight Communion

Christmas Day
10:00 Christmas Celebration with Holy Communion
