This winter, Zermatt will be an even better destination for families thanks to free lift passes on offer for kids.
After the success of last year’s inaugural offer, Switzerland’s ‘Kids4free’ promotion is returning in October 2019.
On offer are 12,000 week-long ski passes for the 2019/20 ski season.
600 Free Children’s Ski Passes in Zermatt
Each resort has a limited number of passes and Zermatt is second only to Adelboden in the number of free children’s passes on offer, with 600 offered.
The passes available will be six consecutive days and will be given away to children up to 12 years of age. The Kids4free promotion is open to both international and Swiss families.
[Note that any free passes must be redeemed before your child turns 13. So, if they have a birthday during the season, then make sure you arrange your trip before then.]
Ballot opens in October 2019
Switzerland Tourism will be operating the promotion on a ballot basis with online applications opening next month on 01 October 2019.
“Help children experience the fun of winter sports”
A spokesman from Switzerland Tourism said:
“The Kids4free project aims to help children experience the fun of winter sports and safeguard its future in the mountains by attracting new international and domestic guests.”
Make sure you select ‘Zermatt’ as your preferred resort, as if you are successful, the resort cannot be changed later.
Zermatt’s passes are for children aged 9-12 and are valid from 30 November 2019 to 03 May 2020.
The competition will run from 9am on 01 October 2019 to 1159pm on 31 October 2019. Winners will be chosen at random by Switzerland Tourism between 04 and 08 November 2019.
Generous discounts for children in Zermatt
The reason that passes only apply to children over 9 is that Zermatt is already extremely generous when it comes to lift passes prices for children.
Lift passes for the under-9s are already free and all children from 9-16 years old qualify for half-price lift passes. Young adults under 19 years old are given a discount of 25%.
