A Polish coldblood horse named Benny is one of the new stars of Zermatt for this winter.
Lifts Available from Friday to Sunday
Benny has been working to help move packages in Zermatt since the summer and is now offering rides for passengers as well.
Lifts are available around town every Friday to Sunday, starting from Bahnhofstrasse to any destination as long as it is accessible by carriage.
Throwback to the 19th Century
This is throwback to the past, as at the peak of English tourism in the Swiss Alps in the 19th Century, horse-drawn carriages were an integral part of the town’s logistics.
As a nod to that history, the 5-year-old Benny pulls a six-seat Victoria carriage, named after the British queen who reigned from 1837 to 1901.
Enjoy a one-horse-power taxi
The six-seater carriage weights 500kg and has curved mudguards over the wheels protect guests from slush or snow.
Modern carriage rides have been restricted to those offered to guests by only two of the Zermatt hotels.
