‘Winter Celebrations Zermatt’ Bring Ice And Light Art To Zermatt

Zermatt is already the perfect ski resort to visit in early season, thanks to its reliable snowfall.

And for the start of the 2020/21 visitors can enjoy even more ways of welcoming winter thanks to the new ‘Winter Celebrations Zermatt’ project.

For four weeks from 17 December to 17 January, visitors and local residents can enjoy a wide-ranging programme of events at various locations around the village.

The founders of the new programme are Philippe Oswald and Giovanni Beretta who have created the ‘Winter Celebrations’ concept in collaboration with many other partners in Zermatt.

Experience Ice and Light Art

The core ideas behind the ‘Winter Celebrations’ have been designed so that people can experience ice and light art in the village.

The Odermatt brothers and specialist ice artists will be based in Zermatt during the month-long period to carve ice sculptures representing many different styles and subjects, including Christmas, snowsports and Lucy Walker, the first woman to climb the Matterhorn in 1871

The final sculptures will be lit up every evening from 5pm to 9pm each day. There will also be a wide-ranging programme of other events.
