Air Zermatt has always set the standards worldwide for rescue services and that continues with the helicopter company’s new innovative use of drones.
The Zermatt rescue specialists have teamed up with Swiss drone and aircraft developer Dufour Aerospace as they start a three-year project to test various uses.
“Pioneering spirit is at the core of Air Zermatt. We are constantly working to improve our service…and reduce our ecological footprint. Drones are one way of doing this.”
Daniel Aufdenblatten, CEO Air Zermatt
Goal is to improve security of supply in the Valais
Air Zermatt and Dufour Aerospace will analyse various uses of drones. The main goal is to improve security of supply for people in the Valais, especially in any situation when the road or train connection is interrupted, something that does occasionally happen after very heavy snow or rain.
Drones could be used to transport medicine or other urgently needed goods. Another possible use is terrain and lift analysis by drone.
“It’s not about doing things that are already being done with drones today. We are more interested in how drones can be used effectively over long distances or for long periods of time.
“There are applications that we haven’t even thought of yet. A hundred years ago, hardly anyone could have imagined the importance that commercial aviation would have. It’s the same with drones – we are actually only at the very beginning and the potential is huge.”
Sascha Hardegger, CEO Dufour Aero
