The Gornergrat Railway is a must on any visit to Zermatt. Our blog post details (almost) everything you need to know about the Gornergrat Railway here.
A new option for visitors is to try the new ‘NostalChic Class’ on your trip. This lifts what is already a superb experience into an unforgettable adventure.
‘NostalChic’ – a unique experience
Guests are welcomed onto a lovingly restored 1961 carriage, with every seat is a window seat, each designed to frame the awe-inspiring ascent from Zermatt (1604m) to Gornergrat (3089m) in pure vintage elegance.
The experience starts at the Hotel Monte Rosa, with aperitifs to set the tone for the day. That’s followed by a short, guided stroll through Zermatt’s historic village finishing at the Gornergat start station.

Exclusive stops and lunch
During your ascent, your guide will share stories along the way, plus there are stops at exclusive viewpoints, including the famous ‘Golden Spot’, where a restored, gold‑plated locomotive waits for your perfect Matterhorn‑framed selfie!
Your ‘NostalChic’ experience includes a four‑course meal at the magnificent Ristorante Al Bosco at Riffelalp (2222m).
This six‑hour experience is available on Wednesdays (and some Saturdays) from late-June through to mid‑September, as well as occasional dates in winter. It runs from 10am to 4pm and the cost is CHF320 per person.
Note though that group sizes are capped at 22 travellers.
