Zermatt’s famous mountain, the Matterhorn, is so well known across the world that visitors come to see it through summer and winter, simply to see the iconic peak.
And not being under copyright, the famous peak has been used by a number of brands over the years to help sell their products.
You may know a certain triangular shaped chocolate bar called Toblerone. If you’ve visited our site before, you’ll even know the history and full story behind it – plus that we are not fans of the gaps in their new design.
There are many other products that have featured the Matterhorn and currently you can see many of them in an exhibition hosted at Gornergrat in Zermatt.
The display includes swimwear from Italy, beer from Canada, cigarettes from Malaysia and shaving cream from the USA, with thirty items featured.
The exhibition is housed in an aluminium tent that was one of the temporary replacements while the Hörnli Hut was being renovated in 2015.
Organised by the Alpine Museum of Switzerland the display runs until 15 October 2017 and is open from 9am to 6pm each day. Entrance included in the Gornergrat Bahn ticket.
One thing we learned from our visit is that they are apparently 248 mountains throughout the world named the ‘Matterhorn’!
Of course, we know – as you do too – that there’s only one ‘real’ Matterhorn. If you’d like to come and visit it yourself, then please don’t hesitate to contact us for our concierge service and help with finding accommodation.
