The Best Locations for Instagram in Zermatt

The attraction of Zermatt has been well documented, from its postcard town to the dramatic mountains. So it’s no wonder that it is one of the most Instagrammed ski resorts in the Europe.

There are almost half a million Instagram posts tagged with #Zermatt. That equivalent to over 60,000 images of Zermatt every being uploaded every year, or almost one every minute!

Putting that into context the Eiffel Tower gets 1m tags a year, and the most Instagrammed place in the world is Disneyland with over 14 million tags since Instagram started seven years ago.

The 2nd most popular ski resort on Instagram

Our research suggests that Zermatt is one of the most popular ski resorts in the Alps to be Instagrammed with double the number of tags of most of other big resorts, beaten by #Chamonix.

The main rule of Instagramming in Zermatt is to make sure you include the iconic Matterhorn somewhere in your picture.

The mountain has 385,000 posts tagged with #matterhorn. Very few of these are taken on the actual top of the Matterhorn, despite six Instagrammers using #topofthematterhorn.

Where are the best places to get the ultimate Instagram photo?

Instagram pictures in Zermatt village

Zermatt is one of the prettiest and most photogenic ski resorts you will ever visit, which is why it gets a lot of shares on Instagram.

Try the ‘village from a distance’ shot, including the Matterhorn.

Or how about a picture in the middle of town while being photobombed by the Matterhorn?

And always try and get one image of some of the traditional buildings:

Instagram on the train in Zermatt

One of our favourite things about Zermatt is the transport, and it’s one of the few resorts you travel to by train (being a car-free resort) and can catch a train (on the Gornergrat line) to go skiing. “How do you like my #commuting?”

Instagramming with a Toblerone

Is this the ultimate Zermatt Instagram moment. We know how Toblerone and Zermatt are historically linked, so for those not on holiday in Zermatt who wish they were, it is possible – with a little imagination – to pretend they are.

Não podia faltar. 🏔#clichê #toblerone #matterhorn #zermatt
