Chalet Ulysse: A ski chalet for up to 12 in Zermatt

1. How many people are coming with you?

Your starting point when booking a ski chalet is to decide who’s coming. Once you’ve pinned down your friends and family to commit to a date then you’ve done the hard part.

The next stage is to choose a chalet based on how many there are in your group.

For smaller groups holidaying in Zermatt, you could choose Chalet Banja, which is perfect for a group of six or less. Larger groups should be looking at Chalet Ulysse as it has enough beds to sleep up to 12 guests.

If you have more than twelve in your party, then  friends then consider booking both Chalet Banja and its neighbouring sister Chalet Binna which will give you enough space and beds for up to 17 people.

2. Pick your luxury extras (e.g. swimming pool, hot tub)

One of the best bits about choosing a ski chalet is looking forward to enjoying those luxury extras that your chalet comes with that you rarely get to enjoy at home.

Zermatt is synonymous with fine living and your chalet shouldn’t disappoint. If you want a swimming pool to take a dip in before or after your ski then pick a property like Chalet Banja.

Or do you want to spend your non-ski time relaxing in a hot tub or unwinding in a sauna? Chalet Binna has a great hot tub, but for pure luxury the Backstage Chalet could be the one for you.

3. Pick your practical extras (e.g. Wi-Fi, boot heaters, accessibility)

Do you need Wi-Fi for work or to make your friends jealous on social media while staying in your luxury chalet in Zermatt? All of our chalets have excellent internet connections. You might find this blog post interesting – The Most Instagrammable Locations in Zermatt

Having cold feet before you start the ski day isn’t very nice. So it makes sense that you would want a boot warmer in your ski chalet – and the good news is that all of our chalets have heated boot rooms with ski boot warmers.

Maybe you have someone in your group with limited mobility and you have found the past that the chalet you booked was hard to access. In that case, you should be looking at Chalet Banja, which was built with this important need in mind.

4. Choose your chalet location

As Kirsty and Phil will tell you, it’s all about ‘Location, Location, Location‘. By choosing Zermatt, you’ve already nailed the first two ‘locations’: Switzerland and Zermatt.

But where in Zermatt should you stay?

Sunegga, Gornergrat and the Matterhorn Paradise ski areas all depart from different areas in town, but the excellent bus service means that it’s easy to get to each of them. The service is extremely reliable and sticks to its timetable in all weather.

That means that rather than being close to one particular lift, you really want to be close to a bus stop. In this respect you can’t do any better than Chalet Ulysse.

The bus stop is right outside the chalet and you can literally leave the chalet one minute before the bus is scheduled to leave and step right on to it. You’ll be at the Matterhorn Paradise lifts within 2 minutes, Sunegga with 5-10 and Gornergrat in around 10 minutes.

Chalets Binna and Banja are very close as well, less 2-4 minutes from the bus stop in Winkelmatten, depending how fast you walk in ski boots!
