e-bikes aren’t the future anymore – they are the now! And this summer, an E-Bike Enduro Race will take place for the first time in Switzerland here in Zermatt.
This is a new race organised as part of the Enduro World Series (EWS), which was due to start in France in July, but due to Covid-19 the series will debut in Zermatt as well.
TrailLove Festival
Both events will come to Zermatt as part of the Traillove Festival, which takes place in the Swiss resort from 26-30 August 2020.
Spectacular Racing
At last year’s official launch of the newly named ‘EWS-E’, David Lappartient, the president of the UCI, confirmed:
“The Enduro World Series has used their experience and expertise to launch this innovative competition format, which will offer spectacular racing with the very highest standards. This new series confirms E-MTB as an innovation-driven cycling discipline.”
Different from traditional MTB Races
The fact that cyclists will have the additional power provided by an electric motor means the race will be very different from a traditional EWS Enduro race.
E-bike athletes will end up taking a longer, separate route with more technical climbs than in traditional MTB racing.
On race day (28 August), the E-MTB competitors will have to cover around 3000 metres of vertical ascent with very little time to recover. The course has been planned to test the cyclists’ physical fitness and their bike handling.
TrailLove Festival, Zermatt
The Traillove Festival takes place between 26 and 30 August. As well as featuring the E-Bike Enduro Race, visitors will be able to test new bikes and join guided rides, plus there will be events for kids.
Enduro World Series, Zermatt
Sunday 30 August will see the round 1 of the Enduro World Series take place.
