Zermatt Bergbahnen has won the Swiss Mountain Award 2023 for its work on the Matterhorn Alpine Crossing project.

Every two years, Cable Cars Switzerland (SBS) honours outstanding, innovative achievements or projects in the Swiss cable car industry with the Swiss Mountain Award.

Zermatt Bergbahnen won against two other projects: the Hohsaas Bergbahnen and the Stoosbahnen heating energy project.

“Visionary cable car project”

Markus Hasler, the CEO of Zermatt Bergbahnen said:

“This visionary cable car project brings an increase in value for tourism development on both sides of the border. It’s not just Zermatt and Cervinia that benefits, but the Aosta Valley and Valais as well as the whole of Switzerland.”

Since the summer of 2023, the long-held vision of a continuous connection between Zermatt and Cervinia via the Matterhorn Alpine Crossing has been a reality.

The Matterhorn Glacier Ride II connecting the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise and Testa Grigia means it’s now very easy to cross the Alps between Italy and Switzerland in a seamless 3S cable car connection.
