Dear American friends,
It’s easy to love England, isn’t it? There’s our history, the Queen and our obsession with tea and queuing! Then there’s our sense of humour and our weird accent.
But we know we’re not perfect (search British teeth!) and a small problem is we don’t have any great skiing. Yes, we do have some slopes in Bonny Scotland, but it doesn’t compare to epic European resorts like Zermatt.
A secret we think you should know…
We Brits have a secret you may not know about, but we think you’ll really like.
Just imagine if you could have world class skiing and the best of British at the same time. Well you can – it’s called a Fully Serviced Ski Chalet Holiday…
How is a chalet holiday different?
Why is a ski chalet holiday so different?
Unlike hotels and lodges you might stay in in the States, a chalet is typically a quaint, traditional Alpine building that can sleep between 6 and 14 people and is staffed with chalet hosts to look after you.
The chalet is set up to feel as homely as possible, allowing you to relax in an comfortable setting.
A typical day in a catered ski chalet
Here’s what a typical day on holiday in a chalet is like:
Once you have woken up in your en-suite bedroom, you can go to the dining area for breakfast where your chalet host will be waiting to cook you breakfast and prepare your tea or coffee.
As this is your chalet for the week you can turn up in thermals or your Spiderman pyjamas if you like! After breakfast you can head back to your room to get ready for the slopes while we tidy up and bake a cake.
Your boots will be waiting downstairs, warm, on the boot heater, and once you have put them on you can head out for a day on the mountain.
While you’re skiing your chalet host will clean your rooms, make your beds and get the place ready for when you get back in from the slopes. On your arrival back a fresh cake will be iced and waiting for you with, of course, tea to go with it.
Every chalet has its own private chef
Once you have had your cake and eaten it, you can relax in the living room, enjoy a hot tub, sauna or swim, or simply catch up on some sleep before dinner time.
Did we mention that your chalet has a chef? Yes your own chef will cook you a delicious top-quality four-course meal. Every night feels like a family meal or a dinner party at home – just without you having to do any of the cooking, cleaning or washing up!
Wine is included with your meal
Complimentary house wine is served with dinner, with a choice from our extensive wine cellar also available.
After dinner, the staff will serve you coffee while you relax in the lounge and everything is tidied up and cleared away.
Then simply repeat this routine until you leave!
Intimate and relaxed – so different from a hotel
There are so many reasons we Brits love this style of holiday: we love the personal touch and service that you only get when you have a dedicated team in your chalet looking after you.
We love the intimate setting that you don’t get when you’re eating out and socialising in hotel bars. We love the way the way it brings people together to socialise. Perhaps the biggest reason we love it is that everything is taken care of, leaving us to enjoy the skiing.
The only thing that is missing is a picture of the Queen, although if you are really lucky one of her relatives might be working in your chalet!
We hope you don’t mind us sharing this secret with you. If you’d like to test it out and try a chalet holiday in Zermatt, then please contact us.
Best regards
The Matterhorn Chalets team
